Valencia

Valencia, on the eastern Mediterranean coast, is the capital of the autonomous community of Valencia and is the third largest city in Spain after Madrid and Barcelona. It is well-known for its notable architectural heritage and its City of Arts and Sciences, a futurist entertainment-based cultural complex. Events such as the America’s Cup and the Formula 1 Grand Prix have increased Valencia’s international profile but it has long been an important national and international business hub with an economy based on trade and agriculture (being particularly famous for its oranges and paella rice) as well as specialist fields such as ceramics and furniture making. Tourism has been an increasing economic factor in recent years. Valencia has access to a lot of beautiful natural areas such as the Albufera lagoon and urban green zones including the 200 year-old botanical gardens or the parkland created in the bed of the drained River Turia, which was diverted away from the city centre in the 1960s. Since then, an increasing number of facilities and buildings have been constructed in the river bed, none more stunning than the magnificent City of Arts and Sciences by the architect Santiago Calatrava. It comprises six structures, including a shaded garden known as the Umbracle and the Oceanographic Museum, Europe’s biggest aquarium.

Valencia is also famous for its traditional celebration of Las Fallas in honour of the patron saint of carpenters. Each neighbourhood in the city forms a group of people who work all year long to build elaborate models made up of wood and papier maché which are then exhibited in the streets during the festivities only for them to be burnt in gigantic bonfires at the end of four days of firework displays and partying!. Above all, Valencia is the perfect city in which to organize corporate events. It has an ultra-modern congress centre with large open-plan spaces that can accommodate up to 2,250 people in a variety of meeting rooms. It is also possible to organize events at the City of Arts and Sciences which offers a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces equipped with all of the necessary technical facilities to make every event a success.
